• Persons with births registered in Minnesota may request that the commissioner change or remove the sex designation on their original birth certificate; minors may have requests made by a parent or guardian.

• Acceptable documentation to support a request includes a written statement from a medical provider, a certified court order from any state, or a sworn statement asserting the request is made in good faith and not to defraud or mislead.

• A person may petition district court to change or remove sex on their original birth certificate; courts shall issue an order upon finding the request is made in good faith and not based on intent to defraud, with consideration of the minor's best interest if applicable.

• Upon issuance of a corrected birth certificate, the original record of birth shall be classified as confidential data and not disclosed except by court order or under section 144.2252.
