Amends the Hometown Heroes Assistance Program to clarify that firefighters diagnosed with a critical illness on or after August 1, 2021, are eligible to apply for monetary support payments up to $20,000.

Expands the definition of "critical illness" to include cardiac disease and cancer as well as other illnesses covered by insurance policies in compliance with state law.

Requires firefighters to apply within 12 months of diagnosis and provide certification from a health care provider to receive monetary support scaled according to diagnosis severity.

Directs the commissioner of public safety to transfer remaining appropriations from the Office of Justice Programs to the state fire marshal for grants to the Minnesota Firefighter Initiative.

Maintains program components including psychotherapy services (up to five sessions annually), additional coordinated sessions for firefighters in need, and mandatory annual training on critical illnesses and suicide prevention strategies.
