Commissioner of health shall develop a program to conduct and support uterine fibroid research and coordinate with public and private entities engaged in ongoing research.

Commissioner shall develop and disseminate public education on uterine fibroid awareness, incidence, prevalence among minority individuals, and range of treatment options including non-hysterectomy procedures.

Commissioner shall establish a statewide population-based uterine fibroid surveillance system to monitor incidence trends, target intervention resources, inform health professionals and citizens, and promote research.

Commissioner shall adopt rules for data collection and reporting by health care providers and institutions, with biennial reports to the governor and legislature beginning February 2024.

An unspecified amount from the general fund is appropriated in fiscal year 2023 to the commissioner of health for implementing the research, education, and database provisions.
