Charter schools and school districts must adopt and provide age-appropriate child safety curriculum for students in kindergarten through grade 12, delivered using videos and role-play demonstrations in collaboration with local law enforcement or self-defense experts.

Curriculum must include stranger danger, nonstranger danger, self-defense techniques, assertiveness and confidence building, appropriate vs. inappropriate touch, recognizing body warning signs, situational awareness, code words, and obtaining law enforcement assistance.

Students must receive child safety instruction at least once per month for 45 minutes during the school year, with classroom discussion following each video or demonstration.

Amends charter school requirements under Minnesota Statutes section 124E.03 to include child safety curriculum compliance.

Effective for the 2021-2022 school year and later.
