Appropriates $2,500,000 from the general fund in fiscal year 2023 to the Board of Peace Officer Standards and Training for education reimbursement grants, with up to 3.5 percent allocated for administration and monitoring.

Eligible peace officers must have begun employment on or after July 1, 2021, been continuously employed for at least 12 months, have no conduct violations, and paid tuition or fees for a professional peace officer education program.

Reimbursement equals the amount paid in tuition or fees, capped at $5,000, and excludes amounts paid by third parties, reimbursed by other entities, or loan amounts that were forgiven or are eligible for forgiveness.

Board of Peace Officer Standards and Training shall establish application requirements including applicant information, school and amount paid, program completion date, employment certification by a chief law enforcement officer, and a perjury statement attesting to payment and no other reimbursement.

Board shall prepare and make application forms available on its website for use by applicants and chief law enforcement officers.
