$1,200,000 one-time appropriation from the general fund in fiscal year 2023 to the Office of Higher Education for transfer to Hennepin County Medical Center

Funds support three physicians per year in an addiction medicine fellowship program for five years, training a total of 15 physicians

Fellowship training covers diagnostic interviewing, motivational interviewing, addiction counseling, withdrawal syndrome recognition and care, pharmacotherapies, epidemiology and pathophysiology of addiction, and treatment of addictive disorders in special populations

Training includes secondary interventions, screening and diagnostic instruments, inpatient care, and multidisciplinary team collaboration

Program prepares fellows to practice addiction medicine in rural and underserved areas of Minnesota
