Amends Minnesota Statutes 2020, section 241.90 to change the Department of Corrections ombudsperson employment status from serving "at the pleasure of" the governor to requiring removal only "for just cause."

Ombudsperson is appointed by the governor in the unclassified service and must be selected without regard to political affiliation and be highly competent in analyzing questions of law, administration, and public policy.

Ombudsperson cannot hold any other public office simultaneously and remains accountable to the governor.

Ombudsperson has authority to investigate decisions, acts, and other matters of the Department of Corrections to promote competence, efficiency, and justice in corrections administration.
