School districts and charter schools must develop written seizure action plans for students with diagnosed seizure disorders when parents notify the school and the student has FDA-approved seizure rescue medication.

Each school site must identify at least one employee on duty during the entire school day who can administer or assist with seizure rescue medication administration.

Identified employees must receive training on seizure medications, recognition of seizure signs and symptoms, and appropriate response procedures.

School districts must provide self-study materials on seizure disorder to all licensed school nurses and other staff working with students with seizures.

Seizure action plans must be filed with the school principal, licensed school nurse, or designated professional nurse, and all supervising employees and volunteers must receive notice and a copy of the plan.

Effective date for the 2022-2023 school year and later.
