Amends Minnesota Statutes 2020, section 518.17, subdivision 1, governing best interests of the child factors in custody and parenting time determinations.

Requires courts to make detailed findings on each best interests factor based on evidence presented and explain how each factor led to custody and parenting time conclusions.

Establishes rebuttable presumption that joint legal custody is in child's best interests upon request, but presumes joint legal or physical custody is not in best interests if domestic abuse occurred between parents.

Clarifies that disagreement alone over parenting time amount, schedule, or sole versus joint custody does not constitute inability to cooperate in child-rearing.

Prohibits courts from considering only a service member parent's past or possible future deployment when determining best interests of the child.
