H.F. 521 - Medical Assistance Postpartum Coverage Extension

• Extends postpartum medical assistance coverage period from 60 days to 365 days for pregnant women and women who meet eligibility criteria under Minnesota Statutes section 256B.055.

• Modifies income and asset verification requirements to apply after the 365-day postpartum period ends instead of the previous 60-day period.

• Extends postpartum coverage to 365 days for pregnant noncitizens ineligible for federally funded medical assistance due to immigration status, using state children's health insurance program funds.

• Requires the commissioner of human services to seek all necessary federal waivers and approvals to implement the extended postpartum coverage.

• Effective January 1, 2022, or upon federal approval, whichever is later.
