Requires students beginning 9th grade in the 2022-2023 school year and later to complete a course in government and citizenship in either 11th or 12th grade as part of social studies graduation requirements.

Maintains the 3.5 credits of social studies required for graduation, including courses in United States history, geography, world history, and either economics or personal finance.

School districts are encouraged to offer the government and citizenship course to students beginning 9th grade in the 2020-2021 school year and later, but must offer it starting in the 2022-2023 school year.

Effective July 1, 2021.
