School districts may employ short-call substitute teachers who meet professional requirements under Minnesota Statutes section 122A.181, subdivision 2, without requiring standard licensing under chapter 122A.

Background checks are required for all short-call substitute teachers in accordance with section 123B.03.

Each assignment for a short-call substitute teacher may last no longer than 15 consecutive school days.

School districts must report all short-call substitute teachers employed to the Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board and affirm they meet professional requirements.

The pilot program is effective only for the 2020-2021, 2021-2022, and 2022-2023 school years.
