Amends Minnesota Statutes section 609.2231 to create enhanced penalties for assaulting a sports official during performance of duties that inflicts demonstrable bodily harm, making it a gross misdemeanor.

Defines "sports official" as a person serving as an umpire, referee, judge, linesperson, timer, scorekeeper, or similar role for a youth athletic activity.

Establishes that a sports official is engaged in their duties when serving in an official capacity, on the premises or parking lot of the youth athletic activity, or traveling between the premises and a public transit stop or motor vehicle.

Effective August 1, 2021, and applies to crimes committed on or after that date.
