School districts or charter schools must provide counseling services and employ at least one full-time equivalent licensed school counselor in each school building.

School counselors must assist students with high school graduation requirements, college and career exploration, college affordability planning, and transitions to postsecondary education or training.

School administrators renewing a license must complete at least two hours of mental illness training, including at least one hour of nationally recognized evidence-based suicide prevention training and one additional hour covering warning signs of early-onset mental illness, trauma, accommodations, and de-escalation methods.

The Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board must examine licensure renewal requirements and submit recommendations to legislative education committees by July 1, 2022, on suitable requirements for other licensed educators including school counselors.
