Authorizes school districts to levy funds to compensate for personnel time spent redacting educational data classified as private data on individuals in response to public data requests.

Districts must calculate personnel costs using the salary and benefit rate of the lowest paid staff capable of completing redactions, or the district's standard cost for contracted legal services if required.

Member school districts of intermediate school districts may include their proportionate share of data request costs incurred by the intermediate district with school board approval through resolution.

Districts may spread the data request levy over a period not exceeding three years with approval from the commissioner.

Effective for taxes payable in 2023 and later, and applies to costs incurred after January 1, 2021.
