Candidates selected for initial interviews for the University of Minnesota president position are excluded from the definition of "finalist" under data privacy law, keeping their names private during initial interview stages.

The Board of Regents may hold closed meetings to discuss candidates, conduct initial interviews, and select finalists for the University of Minnesota president position.

The Board of Regents must disclose in meeting minutes the number of candidates interviewed and preserve closed meeting recordings for two years.

Initial interview recordings of the candidate ultimately selected as president must be made public after their employment agreement is approved by the Board of Regents.

All other recordings from the presidential search process, including interviews with candidates not selected as president, must not be made public.
