Cort Holten was born January 12, 1950, in Montevideo, Minnesota, and graduated from the University of Minnesota with honors in 1972, followed by a Juris Doctorate from Minnesota Law School in 1975.

Served as Judiciary Committee staff for the Minnesota House of Representatives for two years, helping develop the Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Board and sentencing guidelines recognized as national models.

Worked as Assistant Hennepin County Public Defender for three years and spent the majority of his legal career as a litigator and government relations consultant at Chestnut & Brooks (now Chestnut & Cambronne).

Represented clients at the Minnesota Legislature for more than 40 years, serving as an adviser to legislative leaders, mentor to lobbyists, and dean of the lobbyist corps at the Minnesota Capitol.

Senate commemorates Cort Holten and directs the Secretary of the Senate to prepare an enrolled resolution to be transmitted to Brent and Ryan Holten.
