Minnesota Historical Society establishes a historic building facade grant pilot program for cities meeting eligibility criteria, with initial grants to Litchfield and Virginia, each receiving up to $2,500,000.

Eligible cities must have populations under 15,000 and a commercial historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Property owners in eligible cities may receive grants for facade rehabilitation of historic buildings within their city's commercial historic district, with work completed within two years and following federal rehabilitation standards.

Any unused grant funds must be returned to the Minnesota Historical Society for deposit in the general fund.

$5,000,000 in fiscal year 2022 is appropriated from the general fund to the Minnesota Historical Society for the grant program.
