Modifies Minnesota Statutes section 256B.0625, subdivision 26, to explicitly include school social work services as a covered medical assistance service for special education students.

Allows school social work services to be provided by mental health professionals or mental health practitioners under supervision, with services delivered within their licensure scope of practice as defined in section 245I.04.

Permits use of special education evaluations, individualized education programs, or individual family service plans to determine medical necessity for school social work services instead of requiring a separate diagnostic assessment, provided they include an ICD-10-CM code.

Specifies covered mental health services include administering standardized measures, care coordination, crisis assistance, clinical consultation, dialectical behavioral therapy, psychotherapy, behavioral aide services, skills training, and treatment planning.

Exempts school social workers providing mental health services from certification requirements for children's therapeutic services and supports under section 256B.0943.

Effective date is January 1, 2024, or upon federal approval, whichever is later.
