School districts and charter schools that issue student identification cards to middle school or high school students must include the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline telephone number, a crisis text line, or the national 988 telephone number on the card

Requirement applies only if including the telephone number does not require an additional expenditure by the district or charter school

Nonpublic schools are encouraged, but not required, to include mental health crisis telephone numbers on student identification cards

Provision becomes effective July 1, 2023
