HF 2025 - Cremation of Identifiable Body Parts

• Extends all cremation requirements under Minnesota Statutes section 149A.95 to apply to identifiable body parts, with exceptions as specified in the statute.

• Requires written authorization before cremating an identifiable body part from a deceased person (from those with legal right to control disposition) or from a living person (from the person themselves or their legal designee).

• Exempts identifiable body parts from living persons from requiring a disposition permit, death record photocopy, or coroner/medical examiner release, but still requires cremation authorization.

• Requires crematories to record the name and identification number of the person from whom an identifiable body part was removed in their records, distinguishing between deceased and living donors.
