• The commissioner of health shall develop and provide a training program for community health workers on Alzheimer's disease and dementia, which may be conducted virtually or in person.

• Training program must include instruction on recognizing warning signs, understanding effects on communication and behavior, identifying safety risks including wandering and elder abuse, and appropriate communication techniques.

• The commissioner shall work with the Minnesota State Colleges and University System (MNSCU) to explore incorporating the training into the MNSCU-approved community health worker certification program.

• The commissioner may approve existing training programs that meet the requirements instead of developing a new program and shall ensure approved programs are available to all community health workers.

• Effective January 1, 2026, community health workers providing care coordination or patient education services in adult day care, respite care, or in-home care settings must complete an Alzheimer's disease and dementia care training program approved by the commissioner to remain eligible for medical assistance payment.
