Commissioner of Commerce must conduct a study evaluating the potential costs, benefits, and impacts of advanced nuclear technology reactor power generation in Minnesota.

Study must address impacts on Minnesota's greenhouse gas emissions reduction goals, system costs for ratepayers, system reliability, the environment, local jobs, and local economic development.

Study must evaluate current Minnesota statutes and administrative rules requiring modifications to enable advanced nuclear reactor construction and operation, and assess economic feasibility of replacing coal-fired boilers with advanced nuclear reactors.

Commissioner must submit study results to legislative committee chairs and ranking minority members with jurisdiction over energy finance and policy by January 31, 2024.

$150,000 is appropriated from the general fund in fiscal year 2024 to conduct the study and develop the report, as a one-time appropriation.
