HF 3750 Summary

• Adds new definition of "athletic training" to include prevention and wellness promotion, risk management, emergency care, examination and diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, and clinical decision-making for consultations and referrals.

• Expands athletic trainer scope of practice to treat patients beyond just athletes and removes restriction to "primary employment site," while maintaining requirement for physician direction, prescription, or collaboration.

• Allows athletic trainers to evaluate and treat patients not previously diagnosed for up to 30 days without prior physician referral, provided they follow established protocols.

• Clarifies that prevention, wellness, education, exercise, and reconditioning are not considered treatment and therefore do not require a prior diagnosis.

• Directs the Revisor of Statutes to replace terms "athlete" and "individual" with "patient" throughout athletic trainer licensing statutes and repeals subdivisions 4 and 5 of section 148.7802.
