H.F. No. 4417 - Summary

• Commissioner of public safety shall establish Task Force on Preventing Violence Against Latina Women by August 1, 2024, to provide recommendations on reducing violence against Latina women and girls in Minnesota.

• Task force must examine systemic causes of violence, data collection methods, relevant policies and institutions (policing, education, labor, child welfare, coroner practices), prevention measures, and victim support strategies.

• Task force membership includes two state senators, two house members, law enforcement representatives, county attorneys, a coroner representative, service providers or survivors, and three public school representatives.

• Task force shall report findings and recommendations to legislative committees with jurisdiction over public safety, health and human services, and state government by December 15, 2026, and expires January 1, 2026.

• $650,000 in fiscal year 2025 is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner of public safety as a one-time appropriation available until January 1, 2026.
