Nonresident districts must transport students with disabilities within their resident district if transportation is a related service specified in the student's individualized education program (IEP).

Resident districts are not required to provide or pay for transportation between a student's residence and the nonresident district border, unless the student is a child with a disability and transportation is a related service in their IEP.

Parents of low-income students (at or below federal poverty level) may be reimbursed by the nonresident district for transportation costs from residence to district border, capped at 15 cents per mile or actual cost, whichever is less, with a maximum of 250 miles per week.

Nonresident districts must provide written notification to resident districts prior to transporting nonresident pupils within the resident district.

Nonresident districts must provide parents or guardians with transportation information regarding nonresident pupils at the time they notify them that their application has been accepted.
