State school librarian must collaborate on academic standards development, data collection, administering state library aid, and monitoring district compliance.

State school librarian must support schools on intellectual freedom, media and digital literacy, growing lifelong readers, share grant information, work with the Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board on licensure, and provide professional development.

State school librarian reports to the director of State Library Services.
