School principals or designees must notify teachers and parents of violent incidents occurring on school grounds or at school-sponsored activities where individuals are injured, within 24 hours if practicable and no later than 48 hours after the incident.

Notice must specify whether the school is aware of any videos or recordings of the violent activity and must be delivered to parent-consented email addresses or mobile applications.

Schools must also notify teachers and parents when dangerous weapons are brandished or confiscated on school property.

Notices must not include names or identifying characteristics of any students involved in the incidents.

Charter schools and school districts are prohibited from retaliating against teachers or employees for reporting, discussing, or publicizing incidents of school violence or participating in related investigations, hearings, or inquiries.

The requirements are effective for the 2024-2025 school year and later.
