$315,000 appropriated from the natural resources fund in fiscal year 2025 to the commissioner of natural resources for grants to school districts for accessible and inclusive playgrounds.

At least $100,000 designated for three specific school districts: ISD No. 196 (Deerwood Elementary), ISD No. 197 (Somerset Elementary), and ISD No. 199 (Hilltop Elementary).

Grant funds must be used to replace, repair, expand, or install playground equipment; create accessible routes to equipment; or install unitary surface material to expand accessibility.

Playground plans must be previewed before construction or reviewed after installation by a certified playground safety inspector or Minnesota certified accessibility specialist, with review costs limited to 2% of grant amount.

Grant recipients must submit a report by January 1, 2026, documenting spending and recommending best practices for accessibility and inclusion to other school districts.
