Counties, municipalities, and school districts are prohibited from accepting contributions in any form from for-profit businesses or nonprofit organizations intended to pay election expenses for federal, state, or local elections.

The prohibition overrides any conflicting home rule charter or local ordinance.

Entities that provide polling place space to local governments for free or at a discounted rate are exempt from the contribution prohibition.

The bill takes effect the day following final enactment.
