S.F. No. 2359 - Postsecondary Enrollment Options Summary

• Expands 10th grade student eligibility to enroll in career or technical education courses at postsecondary institutions if they pass an 8th grade reading assessment and are not enrolled in public school districts.

• Allows alternative pupils (homeschooled and nonpublic school students) to participate in postsecondary enrollment options after registering with the commissioner of education.

• Requires school districts to notify students by October 30 or May 30 of their intent to enroll in postsecondary courses during the following academic term instead of school year.

• Adds secondary and postsecondary students to the Concurrent Enrollment Advisory Board membership and requires identical weighted grade point average policies for postsecondary coursework and concurrent enrollment coursework.

• Protects students' ability to access scholarships, participate in high school activities, and leadership roles when enrolled in postsecondary courses.
