Commissioner must issue Civil Air Patrol special plates or motorcycle plates to registered owners of passenger automobiles, noncommercial one-ton pickup trucks, motorcycles, or recreational vehicles who are Civil Air Patrol members in good standing.

Applicant must provide a letter from a Civil Air Patrol commander confirming membership in good standing, pay registration tax, and pay a fee specified under section 168.12, subdivision 5.

Special plates may be transferred to another motor vehicle for a $5 transfer fee if the subsequent vehicle qualifies for the plates and is registered to the same individual.

Plates must be returned to the commissioner if no longer in use or if the person is no longer a Civil Air Patrol member.

Commissioner must adopt a suitable plate design in consultation with the Civil Air Patrol; effective date is January 1, 2024.
