• Adds certified deaf interpreter certification issued by RID as an alternative qualification for school district interpreters, in addition to existing NAD and RID certifications.

• New graduates from accredited interpreter/transliterator programs or deaf interpreters receive a two-year provisional certificate from the commissioner and must develop an education plan with a mentor.

• Mentors must hold NAD level IV or V certification or RID certified interpreter and certified transliterator credentials, plus at least three years of interpreting/transliterating experience in educational settings.

• Provisionally certified interpreters may apply for one time-limited extension with documented support from mentors, parents, special education directors, and regional service centers for the deaf and hard-of-hearing.

• School districts may only employ interpreters/transliterators who are certified under the bill's requirements or who have been granted a time-limited extension.
