School districts and charter schools are encouraged to provide instruction on healthy aging and dementia to students in grades 6 through 12, aligned with local health standards and integrated into existing programs and curriculum.

The commissioner of education, in consultation with the commissioner of health and dementia advocacy organizations, must provide districts and charter schools with age-appropriate resources by July 1, 2025, and July 1 of each odd-numbered year thereafter.

Required resources include strategies to maintain brain health, information on Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia, and guidance on caring for elders with cognitive impairment.

The section becomes effective July 1, 2024.
