School districts offering licensed child care programs for children age 33 months or older may provide preschool care as part of community education programs for portions of the day when children are not enrolled in early childhood special education, voluntary prekindergarten, school readiness plus, or school readiness programs, effective for fiscal year 2026 and later.

Preschool care programs are added to the list of allowable uses for general community education revenue alongside existing school-age care programs.

Districts offering preschool care programs are now eligible for school-age care revenue to cover additional costs of providing services to children with disabilities or children experiencing family or related problems of a temporary nature.

The school-age care levy threshold is increased from $2,318 to $16,476 per resident pupil unit, affecting how districts calculate their maximum levy and state aid amounts.

All provisions are effective for revenue for fiscal year 2026 and later.
