Health plan companies must provide coverage for evidence-based obesity treatments including behavioral, dietary, and physical activity interventions, bariatric surgery, and FDA-approved obesity medications.

Medical assistance programs must cover obesity management and treatment in the same manner as required for private health plans.

The requirements apply to health plans offered, issued, or renewed on or after January 1, 2025.

The bill amends Minnesota Statutes chapter 62Q by creating section 62Q.474 and adds subdivision 72 to section 256B.0625.
