Commissioner of health must approve the competency evaluation program for nursing assistants and ensure written portions are available in commonly spoken languages other than English.

Nursing assistants in good standing on a registry in another state may be approved for Minnesota registry without requiring a competency evaluation.

Foreign nursing school graduates who complete an approved competency evaluation under section 144A.61 are eligible to administer medications in nursing facilities upon completion of any medication training program approved by the commissioner of health.

Medication training programs for unlicensed personnel must be offered through a postsecondary educational institution and meet requirements specified in Minnesota Rules, part 4658.1360, subpart 2, item B, subitems (1) to (6).
