School trust lands director must conduct a study of recreational use of school trust lands to determine money allocation to the permanent school fund from outdoor recreation fees.

Study must include estimated annual visits by hunters, anglers, and boaters using school trust lands; miles of snowmobile and ATV trails on school trust lands; and acres of school trust lands in state parks and recreation areas.

Study must also assess other permitted recreational uses, estimated costs of posting signage identifying school trust lands, and costs of updating maps and documents to label school trust lands within state recreational areas.

Department of Natural Resources must provide existing outdoor recreation use data, and the office may contract for additional survey data to complete the study.

School trust lands director must report findings by January 15, 2025 to chairs and ranking minority members of legislative committees with jurisdiction over environment and natural resources; appropriation amount and fund source to be determined.
