Materials and supplies used in construction and renovation projects for four Big Lake schools (Liberty Elementary, Independence Elementary, Middle School, and High School) are exempt from Minnesota sales and use tax.

The exemption applies to purchases made after December 31, 2021, and before January 1, 2025.

Tax must be collected at the standard rate under Minnesota Statutes section 297A.62, subdivision 1, and then refunded following the same process as provided for projects under Minnesota Statutes section 297A.75, subdivision 1, clause (17).

The general fund is appropriated to the commissioner of revenue to pay the refunds.

The section is effective retroactively for all qualifying sales and purchases made between January 1, 2022, and December 31, 2024.
