S.F. No. 5038 - Workplace Readiness Week

• Establishes the week including April 28 annually as "Workplace Readiness Week" in Minnesota public high schools.

• Requires schools to provide information to students on worker rights including employee misclassification protections, child labor laws, wage and hour protections, worker safety, workers' compensation, unemployment insurance, earned sick and safe time, paid family and medical leave, union organizing rights, and anti-retaliation protections.

• Includes instruction on the labor movement's role in winning worker protections and registered apprenticeship programs as alternative career paths.

• Permits observance to be integrated into regular social studies curriculum or conducted through special after-school events, with integration encouraged but not required during the designated week.

• Requires the Commissioner of Education to send annual written notice to all public high schools beginning in the 2024-2025 school year detailing Workplace Readiness Week requirements and available teaching resources.
