SF5103 Summary

• Increases maximum gross vehicle weight limit from 80,000 to 108,000 pounds for trucks and truck-tractor semitrailer combinations on all Minnesota streets and highways.

• Eliminates special permits and seasonal weight increase permits for overweight vehicles by repealing sections 169.826, 169.864-169.869, and related statutes that previously allowed temporary excess weight authorization.

• Updates vehicle registration tax schedules to include new weight categories up to 108,000 pounds with corresponding tax rates, and increases the additional tax imposed for weights exceeding 108,000 pounds.

• Removes references to special permit requirements throughout the statutes while maintaining axle weight limits, bridge load restrictions, and seasonal load restrictions on unpaved roads.

• Effective August 1, 2025.
