School districts must adopt a policy ensuring parents needing language assistance can meaningfully participate in developing their child's individualized education program, effective July 1, 2024.

District policies must include processes for free translation and interpretation services, lists of documents available in other languages, methods to ensure parent understanding, and procedures to provide documents at least one day before meetings.

Districts must identify parents requiring language assistance, notify them in their preferred language, and post policies in English and the three most common district languages on their website and notify parents annually.

School districts must adopt a policy providing reasonable accommodations to parents with disabilities participating in their child's individualized education program, unless accommodations would cause undue hardship.

Disability accommodation requests must be treated as private data, accommodations noted in the individualized education program without disclosing the parent's disability, and districts must respond to requests within five school days.
