Peace officers must use vehicles specifically designed to transport humans safely, owned or leased by a law enforcement agency, and marked with conspicuous agency identification when detaining or transporting suspects

Vehicles must be equipped with a seat and seat belt for each person being detained or transported

The definition of "peace officer" includes Minnesota officers, federal law enforcement agents, officers from other states, and anyone acting on behalf of those agencies

Exceptions apply when exigent circumstances present imminent danger to officers, detainees, or bystanders

Undercover investigations are exempt from the vehicle marking requirement to protect officer safety
