School districts and American Indian-controlled Tribal contract or grant schools may apply, with the commissioner required to seek geographic balance among participating schools

$1,000,000 one-time appropriation from the general fund in fiscal year 2027 for program implementation

Grant funds may cover DNR personnel costs, curriculum development, reporting, staff training, outdoor sports licenses for students, and equipment

Commissioner must submit a written report on program activities and outcomes to relevant legislative committees by January 15, 2027
