Prohibits the transfer, ownership, and possession of semiautomatic military-style assault weapons in Minnesota, effective August 1, 2026

Expands the definition of "semiautomatic military-style assault weapon" to include semiautomatic rifles with detachable magazines and features like pistol grips, folding stocks, or flash suppressors; semiautomatic pistols and shotguns with certain tactical features; and firearms with fixed magazines exceeding 10 rounds

Current owners who legally possessed such weapons before January 1, 2027 may keep them by certifying ownership with the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension by May 1, 2027, subject to secure storage requirements, law enforcement inspections, three-year certification renewals, and restrictions on use locations

Violations of the possession ban constitute a felony punishable by up to 5 years imprisonment and/or a $25,000 fine; violations of certification requirements are gross misdemeanors for first offense, felonies for subsequent offenses

Exempts government officers, military members, and peace officers acting within their duties, as well as licensed manufacturers and dealers transferring weapons to law enforcement or armed forces
