Bans the transfer, ownership, and possession of semiautomatic military-style assault weapons, including specifically named firearms (AK-47, AR-15, Uzi types, etc.) and rifles, pistols, and shotguns with certain features like pistol grips, folding stocks, or detachable magazines

Bans manufacture, import, transfer, ownership, and possession of large-capacity magazines (ammunition feeding devices holding more than 10 rounds), effective July 1, 2026

Current owners of assault weapons who possessed them before January 1, 2027 may keep them by requesting certification from the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension by May 1, 2027, subject to secure storage requirements, law enforcement inspections, three-year certification renewals, and restrictions on use and transfer

Current owners of large-capacity magazines must surrender, modify, or remove them from the state by July 1, 2027, with no grandfathering option available

Violations carry felony penalties of up to 5 years imprisonment and/or $25,000 fine; exemptions apply to government officers, military personnel, peace officers acting in official capacity, and licensed manufacturers/dealers selling to law enforcement
