Voters who register on election day without providing a Minnesota driver's license number, state ID number, or Social Security number must cast a provisional ballot rather than a regular ballot

Provisional ballots are kept separate from regular ballots and processed 4-7 days after the election; voters can have their ballot counted by presenting valid ID numbers to the county auditor or municipal clerk within seven days

County canvassing boards must meet on the 10th day after state primaries (changed from 2nd-3rd day) and between the 10th-14th days after general elections (changed from 3rd-8th days)

State Canvassing Board meeting deadlines extended to 14 days after primaries (from 7 days) and 24 days after general elections (from 16 days)

Effective July 1, 2026, applying to elections held on or after that date
