Independent school districts with six-member boards and 1,000 or fewer students enrolled may submit a ballot question to voters on reducing to a five-member board

If voters approve the five-member option, only two members are elected at the next election for four-year terms, reducing the board size going forward

Districts with five-member boards may reverse the change by submitting a ballot question at least 150 days before the next election of two board members

If voters approve returning to six members, three members instead of two are elected at the next board election

Amends Minnesota Statutes section 123B.09, subdivision 1, which governs school board membership structure
