Bans the transfer, ownership, and possession of semiautomatic military-style assault weapons and large-capacity magazines (holding more than 10 rounds) effective August 1, 2026

Current owners who legally possessed these items before August 1, 2026 may keep them by requesting certification from the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension by February 1, 2027, subject to secure storage requirements, law enforcement inspections, and renewal every three years

Certified owners may only possess the items on their own property, at licensed firing ranges, or while transporting; they cannot purchase additional banned items or transfer them except to law enforcement for destruction

Violations of the possession ban or failure to certify ownership is a felony punishable by up to 5 years imprisonment and/or a $25,000 fine

Exemptions apply to government officers, military members, and peace officers acting in official duties, as well as licensed manufacturers and dealers supplying law enforcement agencies
