Federal law enforcement officers performing duties in Minnesota must hold an associate's or bachelor's degree and meet the standards established by the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Board for Minnesota peace officer licensure under Minnesota Rules, part 6700.0700, subpart 1

Failure to meet these requirements constitutes a misdemeanor; repeat violations are elevated to a gross misdemeanor

Covered federal agencies include the FBI, DEA, U.S. Marshals Service, Secret Service, ATF, Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and their successor agencies

The POST Board designates the appropriate law enforcement agency to investigate violations, while the Minnesota Attorney General is responsible for prosecuting violations
